I suggested using Blogorator. For awhile this worked well. Then several people last week complained it failed to work and Blogorator lost their files. This also happened on my Blog, Blogs I am Following, and Blogorator failed to fix the issue after 5-days even though I notified them.
Note: It is important to remember that these 'Widgets' may not keep up with the latest technology by Blogs such as Google, Wordpress, etc. They are Third Party Program Designs.
Originally I selected this Rating System because it worked on both Blogs and Websites and rated the over all page (Blog or Site) versus the individual posting.
I am no longer endorsing Blogorator.
Website Users, Designers, Programmers, Administrators, and Blog Owners should avoid installing the Widget from Blogorator.

Before Starting please note that this Widget does not work on Websites / Web Pages.
If after registering the Widget and you are unable to go to 'Setting's to remove the 'Recommendations' remove the Widget from your Blog, sign-out and try installing the Widget later on.

Follow these step by step instructions.
Note - Pay close attention, don't miss any steps.
Open the following and leave open till finished:
- Your email account for your Blog.
- Open Outbrain Website.
- When Outbrain loads your Blog, leave that open as well.

Step # 1:
You are at the 'Outbrain' Homepage. In the upper right corner, click on 'Register.'

Step # 2:
Once you click on register 'Outbrain' you will get a new window. Fill in the required information.

Sign-in to your Blog Account, shown here is Google...

After signing into your Blog, you will see this....

Here all I did was 'Change' the title, I recommend you do this, but it is not necessary.
Leave the other settings alone, just click on 'Add Widget.'

If you have a Google Blog (blogspot) 'Outbrain' set-up will take you to this location in Layouts. If you have a different type of Blog such as Wordpress it should take you to something similar. Just simply ignore this, and go to your Blog's main display page.

Step # 7:
Initial installation produces this. The following steps will remove all the links beneath your Blog Rating. If you want these here, Stop, do not proceed any further. I recommend, you not have these on your Blog Postings, and continue with the complete set-up of the 'Outbrain Rating System.'
Note: I have blacked out those that appeared on my Blog.

Respond to Outbrain in your email and verify your 'outbrain' account....

In this step you will see a message that looks like this...

In this step you should get a message that Outbrain has verified your email. Click on the setting, 'Manage Blogs', to the upper left to continue....

In this step you should see your Blog's URL Address.
Next to the URL you should see, 'Settings' click on it.

Change the 'Settings' exactly as shown.

When the Widget has been installed, and the setting changed, the 'Rating' should now look like this...

After you have completed installing the widget go back to your email, and there should be an explanation of how the Rating System works, part will look like this...

Now sign out of-
Outbrain.
Your Blog.
Your Email Account.
View your Blog without signing in.
Test the Rating System.
Refresh your page, look and see if the rating worked on your Blog.

If you have multiple Blogs under on email account, you can sign back into 'Outbrain' and select the ones that you want added to have a Rating applied. Remember, this Rating Widget (gadget) rates each individual Posting, not the entire Blog.

Google Blogging Tip # 90: Single Player Music JavaScript

Q) On your other Blog - Blogs I am Following you posted on November 3, 2009 a response to a different Bloggers Question concerning 'How to Get The Multi Music Player Jukebox' to play only one song at a time, and allow the music player to be used more than once on a Google Blog. I understand why it wont work but but I am having problems with the code. I am sure it's me, so could you just please issue the entire code / script you want me to use?

Installing a Single Music Player


To Install this JavaScript on a Google Blog, follow these steps:
1) Sign-in to your Google Blog
2) From Post or Dashboard go to 'Settings'
3) Select 'Formatting'
4) Change the first line, 'show' to '1' post only (see the pictures below)
5) Save
6) Go to POST, copy and paste The Blog Guy's Music Song Player File JavaScript Code, change the player using a complete URL address.
7) In the event you want to use only one player file, and it is not a Midi (.mid) sound file you will have to apply the extension...example: .wav -or- .mp3
Note: This player plays most Midi, Wav, and mp3 sound files
If you want to play only mp3 files then use the player shown on Google Tip # 55.

Reference: Google Blogging Tip # 51: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 21 - This Gadget allows people to SEARCH items within your Blog.

Q) I loaded the Google Blog / Site Search Gadget you provided on Tip # 51 but it only searches what's within my own Blog. Can you provide me with the code so people can SEARCH the Internet from within my Blog?

A) Yes, but I don't recommend this Gadget because anything that departs a viewer (visitor) from your Blog distracts them from your Blog, i.e. they probably wont return.
Note: This will appear on your Google Sidebar (column).

Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Google Blog.
2. Select 'Layouts.'
3. Select 'Gadgets.'
4. Select 'JavaScript / HTML.'

Adding 'Reactions', a Google Blog Gadget

Currently Google is pushing this Gadget. Many have asked what is it?
'Reactions' is a way of RATING your Google Blog.
You can use the three ratings that Google has or change them to any you want.
Lets get started, here is how you set-up 'Reactions':

Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Google Blog.
2. Select 'Layouts.'
3. Select 'Page Elements.'
4. Look for - Blog Posts, click on 'Edit.'
5. Check the Box next to 'Reactions.'
6. Select 'Edit' next to Reactions.
7. Use Google Default or Change to your own choices.
8. Save, View Blog, go back make changes as desired.
Note: This change will now appear on all Post, old, current, and new.

Once you Click on 'Edit' Blog Post, you get a pop-up window.
















In the Pop-up Window, check the BOX next to 'Reactions', then click on Edit and change the choices to what you want.

Q) Can you tell me how to get the World Greenhouse Clock Widget to install on my Blog, or can you find an alternative, I have looked.

A) This answer has three parts:
First: I have tested this both on Apple and Windows Vista. It requires an additional 3rd party software download that on Apple doesn't work. You should never download a Blog or Web Page Widget that doesn't display or work on the major computer browsers (Apple iMAC Safari, Firefox for Apple, Windows Vista, and Firefox for Windows).
Note: If you get a message that something requires a third party install to run a program or device, the only three that are safe to download are:
1/ - Adobe Acrobat, this reads .pdf files.
2/ - Macromedia Flash to play .swf and .flv flash files.
3/ - Flip for MAC including Windows for MAC

Second: I did send the bank a message informing them of the problem and suggesting that the widget be rewritten in a JavaScript format using Google's API for standardization.

Finally: I did find another Carbon base greenhouse counter. It is not nearly as aesthetic as the Bank Greenhouse Gas Clock, but it is easy to install and use.
Note: Maybe some college student or Green person will write a better Greenhouse Gas Clock in JavaScript. If they do I hope they send it to me so it can be shared by all my readers and supporters.

ADDING Google's Complete Language Translate Gadget:

Can I provide a different 'Language Translator' that has more capabilities (more languages)?
(A) Yes, Google makes one. The reason I selected the 'Flag' method (limited number of country languages, is that the complete translator is not 100 percent accurate.
Provided below, is a complete Language Translator by Google.

This 'Google Translator Gadget' is very easy to ADD to your Blog or Website.

Steps:
1. Go to this Google webpage:

2. 'Copy' the embed javascript code, see picture below.
Note" This works just like copying the embed code from a YouTube Video.
3. Sign-in to your Blog.
4. Select 'Layouts.'

7. Recommended, but not necessary, 'Change' the width to 200 and the height to 100.
8. Save, View Blog, move Gadget to desired location. Recommend this be at the TOP of your sidebar (column).

This 'Gadget' ADDS a 'Google's New Search Box' to your sidebar (column) of your Blog.

This NEW addition to Google's Gadgets allows a visitor to search your blog. Therefore, I personally recommend you add this somewhere to your Blog, preferably to the top of the sidebar! Because of the hundreds of LINKS on this Blog, this NEW Google Search Box will make it easier for visitors to find what they are looking for.
--->I have added this 'Search Box' to Blogs Follow Me, in the upper portion of sidebar. You can see how it works by trying it out before adding one to your Blog.


Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Blog.
2. Select 'Layouts.'
3. Select 'Gadgets.'
4. Select 'Search Box.'
5. Configure 'Search Box' to your needs.
6. Save, View Blog, make changes as needed.


Select 'Logo' Gadget, as shown in the picture:





You get a new Pop-up Window, 'Configure Search Box' , see pictures below:
Note: The more content you have on your Blog, the larger the 'Configure Search Box' window will be.
The first picture shows a newer Blog with some pots and topics.
The second picture is of this BLOG, Blogs Follow Me, and you can see that Google has determined what is all ready on the Blog.
































When your done setting up your 'Google Search Box' for your Blog it should look like this....
This picture shows the 'Search Box' at the top of the sidebar (column).





Here I tested the 'Search Box' by typing in 'Daily Jokes.'
The searches within the Blog appear to the left, this will depend on which Blog template you use.
As you can see many items pop-up.
One is 'Humor, Jokes, and Funny Pictures.'

Now just click on, 'Humor, Jokes, and Funny Pictures.'
This brings up a drop down box under the Search List, which shows a LINK to Daily Jokes, the item searched for...Also, the Linked Item selected is now highlighted, in this case, in white (the highlighted color will vary and depend on your template background).

Google Blogging Tip # 50: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 20

This 'Gadget' ADDS a 'Google Logo' to your sidebar (column).

I personally recommend you add this somewhere to your Blog! Google rumors have it that Google looks for this Logo as part of its criteria for adding your Blog to Google Blog Search Engines.

Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Blog.
2. Select 'Layouts.'
3. Select 'Gadgets.'
4. Select 'Logo.'
5. Select which 'Logo' you want, this choice really depends more on your Template background color.
6. Save, View Blog, make a different selection if desired.

Select which Google Logo you want to appear.
Save, view Blog.

What many don't know is, if you CLICK on the Google Logo, it takes you to the Google Blog Sign-in page.

This 'Gadget' ADDS an 'RSS FEED' to your sidebar (column).

My personal comment - these really just distract from your Blog's content, offer no real value, and benefit a third party, mostly Google. There are some people that just like to clutter their Blog with all kinds of gadgets, so this is a good place to start.

5. Select by 'Blogger (in small blue text).'
6. Page through list, over 180, Select one.
7. Save, View Blog, Appear on sidebar, make another selection if desired.


Click on the Blue Text 'Blogger' to get a LIST of RSS Feeds available.













A New Pop-up Window will appear, Add a Gadget, Results.
Look to the upper left, their are choices for viewing, Google automatically defaults to the 'Most Popular.'
I picked, 'DAILY BUDDHA SAYINGS' which appears on the sidebar (column) of 'Testing Google Blogs.

Google Blogging Tip # 48: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 18, Modified

This 'Gadget' ADDS a Language Translator (converter) to your Blog.
--->This Post has been updated, modified and changed to add two versions of this feature depending on your Blog's Template Background Color.

After I added my Language Translator to my Blog, see bottom of this Blog Page, I received several emails asking for the Code and why I picked this particular Gadget (there are many gadgets that perform the same function).

First this one is a short version, coverts the main Languages in world. It is highly rated by language experts who claim it is the closest translator (language converter with the least number of errors). Also many Gadgets only use a Country Flag, this one uses a Flag and Country Name.
Note: This particular Gadget style uses the Flags in a Vertical Format.

Steps:
1. Copy the complete CODE in the box, found on my web page link below.
2. Sign-in to your Blog.
3. Select 'Layouts.'
4. Select 'Gadgets.'
5. Select 'HTML / JavaScript' or 'Bottom Gadget'.
6. Paste complete code.
7. Save, View Blog, Test, make changes as desired.

Google Blogging Tip # 47: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 17

At the request of many readers, we are continuing 'Google Gadgets.' Yes, I will return to HTML Codes and JavaScripts for Blogs.

Adding 'Labels' to your Blog:
The primary purpose of this Gadget feature is to identify your various Google Posts, by categories. This is done by 'Labeling' each post at the bottom under 'Labels for this post.'
You can call your post anything you want.
In this case, this post has been labeled, 'Google Blogging Tips.'
The advantage of using this feature is that Google will sort all 'Posts' under this label. So when a visitor to your Blog wants to see everything you have written on a certain subject (topic) the 'Label Gadget' feature sorts all post, and list them in reverse chronological order (latest post first).
Some other features are:
1) - You can go back at anytime and add 'Labels' or change the title or move one label to another label just by changing the label title.
2) You can use multiple label titles. In other words you can have more than one label per post. This is useful if your post covers more than one subject matter.
Note: This feature should not be overused.
3) As a 'Gadget' you can move your 'Labels' anywhere you want by using your mouse in 'Layout' to position this Gadget feature in the sidebar (column).


Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Blog.
2. Select 'Posting.' Create a new Post and a new Label.
3. Go to 'Edit Post.' You will see a new column added that shows your Label. Also in green text, next too your post will have the 'Label Name' you created at the bottom of Posting.
4. Go to 'Layout.'
5. Select 'Gadgets.'
6. Select 'Labels'
7. Enter Title for 'Labels' and select type of sorting.
8. 'Save' changes.
9. Under Gadgets select 'Labels' by clicking with your mouse, hold down mouse button, drag and drop to desired sidebar location.
10. Save, View Blog, make changes as desired.


The picture below shows how a 'Label' was created for a post and where the 'Label' is placed.











The picture below shows a Blog's Posting History, under 'Edit Post.' It also shows a column to the left for all 'Labels Created' , and it shows next to each Post, the 'Label Name' assigned to that post.











The two pictures below show separate post. One has only one 'Label' and the other has two 'Labels.'











Under 'Labels' in Layout / Gadgets the picture below shows two options.
First - Determine 'Sorting' (position) by Alphabetical Order (recommended) or by Frequency (this rearranges the 'Labels' by name, according to the last posting).
Second - Give the 'Label Gadget' a 'Title.'
Don't for get to 'Save.'

Google Blogging Tip # 38: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 16

Continuing 'Gadgets.'
This is NOT about what you should add / do - it's about what you should not remove / do!

On most Google Templates, these appear at the bottom of the 19 Gadgets Google offers when you clik on 'Gadgets.'

'Profile' - this is your personal profile on Google and where your Icon picture is placed that allows followers to follow your Blog and you follow theirs.
Don't remove it. If you wish to change your Profile, then go to 'Edit Profile.'
'Blog Archive' - This is your archives of all the post you made. If you remove it, it is gone forever.
Don't remove this!
The only case I can think of for removing your Blog's archives is that you want to keep your Blog but NOT for the subject you are currently using it for. By removing the Archives you will have a usable Blog for future purposes.

Google Blogging Tip # 37: Setting Up Your Google Blog Gadgets, Part 15

Adding a 'Gadget' to the 'Bottom' of your Blog:
The primary purpose of this Gadget feature is for you to add any Gadget you like to the very bottom of your Blog.
I simply moved 'Followers' to the bottom Gadget by dragging and dropping.

IMPORTANT: I noticed that not all Templates have this feature. Google is working to correct this. But this is just another reason to make sure you select the Template that works best for you, discussed in another one of my Google Tips.

Note: The downside to using this 'Gadget Feature' on the Bottom of the Blog is most people read only the current (most recent) topics on a Blog. The upside, it will cause a percentage of Google Blog Users to try and find your 'Followers.'


Steps:
1. Sign-in to your Blog.
2. Select 'Layouts.'
3. Select 'Gadgets on Bottom of Blog.'
4. Select the Gadget Item by clicking on 'Gadget' or drag and drop from the current list.
5. Save, View Blog, make changes as desired.



Select 'Layout'
Click on 'Gadgets on Bottom of Blog'
You get the normal Google pop-up window of Gadgets.
Either select from the Google List, Drag and Drop from your all ready existing Gadget List, or use a third party to install the Gadget you desire.

As stated above, instead of selecting an item from the Google Gadget List or a Third Party, I used a Gadget all ready installed on my sidebar by simply drag and drop to the bottom of the Blog.
